"He
is Risen "In Thomas Merton's book, titled "He Is Risen" he has this to say. "Christ has risen, Christ lives, Christ is the Lord of the living and the dead. He is the Lord of history. Christ is the Lord of a history that moves. He not only holds the beginning and the end in His hands, but He is in history with us, walking ahead of us to where we are going. He is not always in the same place. The cult of the Holy Sepulcher is Christian only in so far as it is the cult of the place where Christ is no longer found. But such a cult can be valid only on one condition; that we are willing to move on, to follow Him to where we are not yet, to seek Him where He goes before us -- "to Galilee" We for our part are not only called to believe that He has risen, but we are called to express the resurrection in our own lives by following Christ who lives in us. Our belief in the resurrection changes our total expression of life itself because we believe this to be a fact. This belief is expressed by our involvement and sharing with the people we meet each day, because our love for one another means involvement in their history and their journey. This is the life and action of Christ himself within us by His Holy Spirit. How do we express the joy of Easter? The only way we can truly express this joy is to share our life and our love with everyone we meet. This means we must stop playing God and accept people as they are; with all of their weaknesses and limitations and more importantly accept them with all of their gifts, because in many cases, their weakness is truly a gift to us and their limitations provide an opportunity for us to support and to share the life of Christ himself. Joy then becomes much more than happiness, it becomes a sharing in the life of our Creator in such a way that we experience His presence and His love each day of our lives. The Easter experience of the Resurrection, becomes our road map to where we journey to where we have not yet been. We continually follow Christ as He goes before us to prepare a place for us in His Father's house where we will enjoy His presence forever. ![]() May you and your family experience the Joy of His presence today and always. |
